The process development efforts conducted by METSS typically fall into one of two categories: (i) the development of production processes required to support our materials and formulation development programs; or (ii) the development or integration of processing methods to support our evironmentally friendly technology development programs.
Representative programs include the following:
- METSS developed an environmentally friendly process to remove inks, coatings, and metals from waste optical media and automotive materials, as well as other post consumer and post industrial waste streams. This pocess is currently being practiced on a commercial scale with a single shift capacity of approximately 7 million pounds per year.
- METSS has developed and demonstrated the technical feasibility of using a homogeneous catalytic process to convert syngas to methanol at a scale that is commercially viable for small-scale manufacturing. Process evaluation and development efforts included upstream processing methods to generate appropriate syngas streams from various sources of starting materials (e.g., gasified biomass materials, coal, methane, waste plastics, etc.), as well as process intensification methods to reduce the size and cost of the final production process.
